2023 Tire Rack SCCA St. Louis CAM/XS Challenge

Family Arena

About this event

Tire Rack SCCA CAM/XS Challenge

For 8 years, the SCCA’s Classic American Muscle Solo division has existed alone as the sport’s wildest outlet for production-based cars running on 200tw tires with few other rules aside from an all-American heritage and whatever else their builders could dream up. These muscle cars which are so popular at the fancy auctions have also found a home in SCCA® fulfilling their purpose – getting them out of the garage and being pushed to their limits of something other than gathering dust. Now the rumbling V8 engines and ground pounding American muscle of CAM is joined on the grid by some new kids in town with the cars of the Xtreme division entering the arena. Screaming rotaries, whistling turbo four cylinders, wailing sixes, high-winding V8s, and cars from all over the world challenge the clock and the competition to see who can build the most Xtreme—and effective—autocross car out there.

CAM

SCCA has three classes for these types of cars – CAM C, CAM T, and CAM S.

  • CAM C: With the “C" standing for Contemporary, this class sees car and truck body styles from 2001-on.
  • CAM T: In this case, the “T” stands for Traditional, and this class is for car and truck body styles originating from 1948-2000.
  • CAM S: The “S” stands for Sports and this class is where 2-seater cars are allowed. It is also for all cars that do not meet CAM C or CAM T weight minimums.

Xtreme Street

SCCA has three classes for these types of cars - XA, XB, and XS

  • XA: This class highlights import and domestic sports sedans and coupes (no electric or hybrid-electirc vehicles are allowed)
  • XB: Vehicles eligible for this class are lightweight and domestic sports cars (no electric or hybrid-electic vehicles are allowed)
  • XS: This class will showcase all 2 (adult) seater high performance, import and domestic sports cars. (electric & hybrid-electic vehicles are allowed)

For specific class guidelines and classing visit the rules page.

WHAT’S A WORKER ENTRY?

In exchange for working the CAM and XS Challenge Rounds on Sunday afternoon, worker entries are offered at a reduced entry fee. Worker Entries still get all of the “normal competition” runs (at least 8 total – 5 to 6 on Saturday and 3 on Sunday morning). In addition, the non-Challenge Round heats work like a typical event, with all drivers both working and running in specific heats.

All classes are welcome, with Indexed classes being created based on the number of entries. For example, Street Classes may run as a Street Index, Street Touring Classes as a Street Touring Index, Ladies Classes as a Ladies Index, etc. It all depends on how many drivers sign up to participate (so bring your friends)!

Worker Entries are still eligible for event trophies (awarded based on the Index class) and may even be eligible for contingency. Contingency availability is dictated by the partner and is subject to all requirements: membership status (must be an annual SCCA member), class size, product use, etc.

SCCA Starting Line will be hosting a Starting Line Driver's Edge Experience at The Family Arena in St. Charles, MO in conjunction with SCCA's Tire Rack Peru CAM/XS Challenge. This weekend-long experience is geared toward those new to National Solo events. The SCCA Starting Line Driver’s Edge uses a team of successful autocross veterans who remember what it was like the first few times they pulled up to the starting line to make a run on the big stage of national-level competition.

In short, you’ll be given the tools and an explanation of the ins and outs of a Tire Rack CAM/XS Challenge event, arming you with the information to conquer the event without the intimidation factor that comes from doing something new. Our coaches will walk you through the event information page, talk about run/work assignments, teach you how the grid works, what to do at impound, and the information available to you at the driver’s information center.

Most importantly, our championship-level coaches will help you throughout the weekend, checking in to help answer any questions that come up, touching base in grid before your run heat, and providing support and encouragement along the way. Think of them as your big brother or big sister for the weekend!

There is NO CHARGE to take part in the Starting Line Driver's Edge Experience. If you are a driver that is new to National Solo events, we encourage you to sign up and take part!
